The sun beat down relentlessly on the sandy desert, baking the golden sand and making it hot to the touch. A small wolf dragged herself along the hot sand, pulling herself along although greatly tired. Her paws ached, and she was dying to drink and lay down, but she showed no signs of this, showed no emotions. She only had her mouth slightly open, and her tongue lolled out every once in a while. Squinting in the sun she kept herself moving, when a familiar and oh-so-sweet smell invaded her nostrils.
Waaaaaaaaaaater
The word droned out in her mind, and her pace quickened, soon turning into a full-out run. Whisper, the name of the running wolf, put her remaining energy into her legs, her muscles pumping hard. The smell grew stronger and stronger, and in the distance Whisper saw an oasis in the middle of know where. It approached fast, and she sat herself at the water's base, slurping and slapping at the cool refreshment. Pulling up for a breath, she observed the mysterious land. It was very tropical, palm trees and grass gave the place a nice shade.
Whisper was unsure if it was small, or it stretched on for miles. However, no wolf or any other animal was in her section, which pleased her very much for the privacy. Curling up in the shade, she relaxed her sour muscles and dozed off.

Stretching slowly, whisper rose from her resting place and shook her fur. Dust and dust flew in the air, and Whisper hacked and sneezed. Once it cleared, she took another long drink before trotting off deeper in the oasis.
The oasis must have been small, for she came upon many wolves eagerly chatting and retelling stories of their travel. Whisper avoided the wolves and sat down at the base of a small palm tree. They seemed not to notice or to care, which did not bother Whisper. She rather be left alone. One young pup tried to approach her, happily wagging his tail, but with one glare by whisper the pup took off in a different direction.
With her intent gaze she monitored the other wolves, she found that some wolves had a mysterious jewel placed upon their heads. They also had a different stench, which puzzled Whisper.
She continued to observe, and no one bothered her, or noticed her for that matter. She was invisible. And Whisper liked it that way. However, a feeling swept over her. She had felt it before, when she lost her mother. It was loneliness.

[[Got your PM]]
But, about a quarter of a mile a way, a wolf was watching Whisper. She was white as the moon, with dark, almond shaped eyes and a slender muzzle. She saw how Whisper watched the other wolves, without actually interacting with them. It was... interesting. Curious, she trotted over to the new wolf. "Hi." she said, wagging her tail a tiny bit and bowing her head slightly. "You seem a little lonely." After she had said it, Ember realized she was coming off a little blunt, but there wasn't much she could do about that now. Blinking quietly, she hoped the new wolf wouldn't be too offended.
She inhaled, a small attempt to smell the new creature. She smelled of the oasis water, and of sleep.

A white wolf caught Whisper off guard. The female was intriguing. She was a bright white with deep dark eyes that seemed to hide many secrets. The wolf wagged her tail happily and tried to start a conversation. [glow=red,2,300] "Hi. You seem a little lonely."[/glow] Whisper glared at her intensely, hoping to scare her off, but she would not budge. Whisper then realized that this wolf was waiting for something. An answer perhaps. Sighing inwardly Whisper paused from examining the other wolves and turned her attention to the snow-white one. From her scent, she seemed to be a timber wolf, which was strange for most wolves of that breed did not have a coat as white as hers. Whisper liked the difference. Slightly raisin her head, Whisper barely spoke a reply. “Loneliness adds beauty to life. It puts a special burn on sunsets and makes night air smell better.”
As she said this, she cocked her head a bit, and could not help but smirk in a wolf-like way, her tail thumping against the solid floor. "And who is the wolf so interested in if I feel lonely?"Quoted from Henry Rollins

Ember, surprised by the depth of the new wolf's response, flicked her ears and bowed her head. "That may be so, but loneliness is also said to be the poverty of one's self. No one would choose a friendless existence on condition of having all other things in the world" she replied. Raising her head to meet the new wolf's eyes, not in challenge, more of acknowledgement, she spoke again. "I am called Ember." with a small smile, she layed down on the long grass, which tickled her stomach. "And you are...?" she waited for the wolf's response.

The she-wolf bowed her head and offered a witty reply.
"That may be so, but loneliness is also said to be the poverty of one's self. No one would choose a friendless existence on condition of having all other things in the world"
Whisper could not help but smirk again. The two meet each other's eyes, almost if by staring in the other's they would unlock the wolf's past.
The wolf laid down in the long green grass and slightly smiled.
"I am called Ember. And you are?"
Now, without any hesitation, Whisper came up with a good remark.
"I have many names that the winds like to call me. But the most common spoke by our tongue is Whisper. Glad to meet you Ember. Might I ask what brings you here?"

Ember blinked solemnly. She did not want to share her fearsome, depressing history with any being ever again. So she simply said: "I have been on my own for quite a while, it's been years since crossing paths with any group of wolves. I am here searching for a new family; a pack; to take me in." she replied calmly. There. That wasn't a lie, she just simply wasn't telling the whole truth. "I smelled the other wolves here, and decided to investigate." she sighed softly, a bit frustrated. "They didn't smell like a pack, or how I remember one. Each of you has your own smell, you aren't united. I was blinded by an iridescent hope. But it is gone. My nose was right." she said with a small laugh. "and yourself? Why are you here?"

By her solemn look she had Whisper could tell that her story was not the whole truth. Opening up even more to the stranger, Whisper began to speak.
"My story is similar to yours, I have been separated from my mother for a while, and I am looking for a pack, and maybe even a new family. I also came here in hope to find a pack...but you may have not smelled all the wolves here. Some have a different smell to them, different from the others. Now I am sure they are alphas, especially since that one over there, with that jewel on his head, is taking a few wolves with him."
As Whisper said that last line, she leaned over so se could clearly see the possible alpha. His two recruits yipped happily then rolled over in submission, before he gave a satisfied nod. Whisper looked on without any expression, but inside she was elated that she was right.

Vilkas was in a good frame of mind. He had found two wolves to join his pack so far, a male and female, and this was exactly the sort of start he needed. He had begun the day a lone male in possession of a territory with a gem on his forehead (which itched slightly still, he found, although his dignity wouldn't allow him to scratch, blast it), and now he was a true alpha. But he was determined to find more before he left the oasis - it was no easy trek across the Plains. But for now he was hunting - he needed a meal, as he had given the jackrabbit caught earlier to Reshara, who was waiting for him by the creek.
He trotted forwards more quickly at catching the scent of wolves, his tail instinctively standing to attention in the nature of a flag, his ears pricked upwards and forwards. He found himself standing before two females, both on the small side (to his eyes, although as a tall male, most wolves were). He walked up to the smaller red female and cocked his large head slightly sideways, sniffing her lightly.
"Are the two of you alone?" he questioned of the female in front of him. He was unsure of this one's age, although clearly the pure white female was young - perhaps not even yet at full maturity, although it was difficult to say without getting closer. He lowered his head slightly more on the female's level, although he still stood taller. "My name is Vilkas, alpha of Crescent Lake."
(ooc note: vilkas pronounced veel-kahs)

Whisper, again, was caught off gaurd today. As she observed the strange ritual of acceptance, a rather large wolf approached her and Ember. From his smell and the jewel perched on his head Whisper immediately she knew, Just KNEW he was an alpha. Whisper could hardly contain herself.
"Are the two of you alone?"
The male wolf was so much bigger than her he had to lower his head, and even then he seemed taller.
"My name is Vilkas, alpha of Crescent Lake."
Again, Whisper wanted to yelp with joy. Her luck was enormous! As Well as Ember's. Maybe the two strangers would join the same pack and get to know one another more.
Lowering her head in respect, she glanced up at the large wolf. He had a thick coat, that had black and brown scattered throughout. He was Well build, and obviously strong, defiantly much more than Whisper herself. He also seemed to have a character beneath his eyes.
Keeping her head low, she quietly responded.
"Yes, the two of us are without company besides ourselves. Greetings Sir Vilkas of Crescent Lake. I am Whisper, and this is Ember. Pleased to meet you."
Whisper made sure to be extra extra polite, hoping not to offend him and loosing her chance of joining a pack. She turned her head toward Ember as if to beckon her to speak. Normally Whisper was shy herself, but she did not want to seem weak.

The small female had an equally small voice, and Vilkas wished that she would speak up. There was no need to be timid here, this was a safe place for wolves. But he took the time to look her over and guage her strengths. She was slim, reddish in color - much like some of the boulders of his territory, which were a strange banded stone of earth tones and grey.
Whisper. The name suited her well. Ember looked as if she should have been named Ice, with her silence. But somehow he felt that her name was fitting as well. Something in her eyes told him she had fire. He had never been called sir before, though, not even Iori or Reshara had called him sir. "Just Vilkas," he insisted. As long as there was respect, he saw no need for titles. Wolves were wolves.
"Whisper," he nodded, acknowledging her. "Since the two of you are alone, perhaps you would join my pack. You seem to be a good hunter," he said to Whisper, acknowledging that she seemed very capable of stalking close to prey unseen, and she seemed more patient than many.

He wanted her to join her pack! He accepted her! Not many other wolves she had met in the past really paid any attention to Whisper, so she was used to being invisible, and staying that way. However, it was finally her turn to be part of a pack- no- a family! The moment the words reached her ears her heart soared.
"Yes! -ah- I mean I would be honored."
She yipped, tail wagging back and forth with happiness.
"Thank you very much. I can assure you that I will be of much service to you."
